Miravalles Protected zone includes the edifice of the Miravalles Volcano, which has no record of activity, and the very well conserved moist forests, very moist forests and cloud forests covering its lower slopes. The Miravalles is a very complex stratovolcano 2,028 m high with six eruption points at its peak. On its western and southwestern flanks there are lava flows. |
At the foot, in the southwestern part, in Las Hornillas, which is accessible by the path from Bagaces, interesting examples of hydrothermal activity can be seen. Some of the oldest Pre-Hispanic archeological remains in the country have been found in this area.Two paths lead to the top of the volcano.
